How to make a million dollars
The beauty of this post's title is that people are almost compelled to read whatever follows after it. In this case, let me direct you to these remarks from Marshall Brain:
What he has to say is straightforward, and resonates for me. It's a good read for any young person starting out, and contains lessons that I wish I'd learned sooner. In some ways, it relates to my recent post, Live a Possible Life.
[Update: relates, indeed. It turns out that Marshall Brain is the author of A Teenager's Guide to the Real World, which includes this comment: "You can, to a large extent, design your life completely from scratch."]
How to Make a Million Dollars reminded me of this quote (which I can't immediately attribute):
"You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take."
as well as a quote from (I think) a famous climber which says, in part, when you decide to climb a mountain, the odds that you will succeed go up the moment you start to climb.
I was speaking with someone the other day about Jeff Hawkin's provocative and informative book, On Intelligence, which aruges that your brain is constantly predicting what's going to happen next. It seems to me that somehow, this is why a vision of a future possibility is so powerful - it ties directly into the way we think at a fundamental level.
Tip of the hat to Michael Pollack of smallbusinessbranding for the link.
