The secret of Dave Grenewetzki's success

Dave was my boss at Mindscape, and this post from Kathy Sierra reminded me of his mangement style:

...research that suggests the most effective leaders are those who are funny--those who have their employees laughing much more than other managers do.)

This goes along with other research that says the number one factor in employee satisfaction is the person who manages them.  There's more to leadership than humor alone, but I've somehow managed to avoid dour bosses.

I always loved that about Dave. Pretty much every email I ever got from him was laced with humor. It made it so much easier to go to work in an environment like that, and I tried to emulate it, putting humor in my own emails. (Remember the net nazi?)

I miss those days.

I worked with Dave at Palladium Interactive. The BEST boss I ever had. When you worked with Dave you LOVED to come to work. The best employee evaluation I ever received was from Dave. He closed it with, "Doug's a keeper."

Man we had fun making software.
